About

FishNet Blog
This website was originally the homejust  for my weekly computing columns which were published in the Sunday Tribune in Durban, South Africa, under a number of different names, most recently as FishNet.
FishNet is aimed at readers interested in computing and online matters, but is not very technical. I do allow myself the occasional rant about South African issues (chiefly our slow Internet connections and expensive bandwidth) but there is a lot here of general interest.

EQUIPMENT

” Paper & pencil
” A PC
” MS Word & Dragon Dictate speech recognition software

Photo Blog
I’m a keen photographer and I’m what you might call a semi-professional, in that I make a portion of my income from photography. I started a separate photo blog a while ago but I have now consolidated those posts with the FishNet ones, for ease of maintenance.
Subjects covered in the blog include shooting and processing techniques, thoughts on what makes a good picture, and the odd article on gear. I’m particularly keen on shooting low-key black and white shots of people and panoramas.
EQUIPMENT
” Nikon D90 + 18-105mm kit lens
” Nikkor 50-200mm zoom
” 2 x Nikon SB600 flashes
” Basic Strobist (off-camera) flash kit including flash meter, lighting stands, umbrellas and gaffer tape
” Manfrotto tripod & ball head

Also stored here are a few book reviews, originally published on my In General blog and posts I did on current events in Durban in the now-defunct Dateline Durban blog.

I hope you find something something for you in these pages, and I look forward to hearing from you in the comments section.
